Find out more about Second Life use in nonprofits:
Nonprofit organizations are utilizing Second Life Grid's technology to construct inworld facilities and campaigns that promote their issues. The Second Life Grid platform enables nonprofits to build communities around their causes where residents can interact with inworld demonstrations, multimedia-rich presentations and topical discussions.
Many leading organization have already established a virtual presence that both enhances their real world campaigns and reaches out to new audiences. For instance, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) have a facility that provides interactive educational demonstrations about the ocean and weather. Visitors can ride submarines, experience a tsunami, or check out real-time weather maps.
Linden Lab's educator and nonprofit program allows organizations to further their inworld programs and development. This program provides discounted land rates and group mailing lists. For more information on getting the nonprofit discounted pricing, visit the Special Order Form.
The Second Life Grid platform is already being used by dozens of nonprofits. Below are some examples of various organizations that have taken advantage of the Second Life Grid as part of their ongoing nonprofit efforts.

If you would like a place of permanence on the Second Life Grid, Private Region ownership lets you create a secure "intranet" space with restricted membership for your organization, or you can open it up to be accessible to everyone on the Second Life Grid. We offer a discount for Private Regions to educational institutions and nonprofit organizations. You can find details on the Private Region order page. You can also optionally buy a plot of land on the mainland of the Second Life Grid if you want something smaller and permanent (we don't offer any educational/nonprofit discount for such plots).
